The History
There are a variety of sites from old, around the year 2000 when I'd been playing with HTML but had no official training on the subject. Just plodding along, taking apart other sites and seeing how each worked.
Time passed and interests changed. Many things entertained me on how advertising and promotion worked. I tried lots of things and these few have some how still survived into the year 2009.
Even now the Old Geocities has now gone from our first roots back in 1997 when we ventured into websites.. Everyone has to have one... we were IT BTEC Students - its just something you've got to have. The internet was new to many, hotmail wasn't owned by microsoft and you just needed an email address to get a website and some time to get an email address. We were up. We had our websites - usually a fan site of some sort or some info about ourselves just wanting to get noticed.
We all had counters and compared who got the most. A few of us went into web work further on in more languages like PHP (as it was free) and more now onto CSS, XML, ASP, .NET, AJAX etc but to start with it was all just odd and really bad HTML stuck on a page... But at least it was always plain text editors like Notepad. None of these WYSIWYG Editors (like frontpage)...
